At Pinellas Animal Hospital we are committed to providing your pet with a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable stay. Our boarding facility is climate-controlled (air conditioning and heating) to ensure their comfort, and dogs enjoy scheduled potty breaks and exercise in our secure outdoor area. If you have any questions, our team is happy to assist you.
To maintain a healthy environment, all pets must be up to date on vaccinations (including boosters at least 14 days prior to boarding) so that their immune system has time to develop proper protection.
Required Vaccinations:
Dogs: Bordetella, DA2PP (Distemper/Parvo), Rabies, Canine Influenza, Leptospirosis, and an intestinal parasite screening (within the last 6 months).
Cats: Rabies and FVRCP (Feline Distemper).
Ferrets: Rabies.
Rabbits: RHDV2.
Birds & Pocket Pets: No vaccine requirements.
If your pet’s vaccines are not current or proof is unavailable, we may be unable to accommodate your reservation.
In the event of an emergency or extended power outages, we require an alternate contact who is authorized to make decisions regarding your pet’s care and, if necessary, pick them up if boarding can no longer be provided. If we are unable to reach you or your emergency contact, our veterinary team will use their best judgment regarding your pet’s care. Any associated costs will be the owner’s responsibility.
Emergency Contact Name:
Emergency Contact Phone Number:
Pets with a current annual exam will receive a brief technician evaluation during their stay, including weight and general health monitoring.
If your pet arrives with prescribed medication or receives a veterinary exam that results in medication, a medication charge will be included in your bill. No charge will apply if medication is required due to a new condition that develops after arrival.
Intestinal Parasite Screening: If your dog does not have a valid screening (within 6 months), we will perform one at an additional cost.
Flea & Tick Policy: Upon arrival, a staff member will check your pet for fleas/ticks. If any are found, treatment will be required at the owner’s expense to protect other pets in our facility—even if a document authorizing contact before treatment is signed. In severe cases, we reserve the right to refuse admission.
If your pet has or develops diarrhea during their stay, they will receive medication (at the owner’s expense) regardless of any pre-signed treatment notice.
We recommend bringing your pet’s own food to maintain their diet. If not provided, we offer the following:
Dogs & Cats: Hill’s Science Diet Sensitive Skin & Stomach (dry)
Cats: Fancy Feast (wet)
Rabbits, Guinea Pigs: Timothy Hay
If your pet requires a prescription diet and you do not provide it, we will add a bag or case to your bill (if available) or supply an appropriate alternative. Note: Raw diets are not allowed due to the risk of cross-contamination.
Dogs: Receive a complimentary bath that includes a nail trim, brushing, and ear cleaning before pick-up. If you prefer to decline the bath, you may arrange an earlier pick-up time.
Cats: While cats do not receive a bath, a complimentary nail trim is available upon request at drop-off.
Pupsicles for Dogs: An innovative enrichment tool made with an appropriate size fill of pumpkin puree or Hill’s I/D pâté, designed to keep your pet engaged for 20–40 minutes.
Durable Chew Toys for Dogs: Including Jolly Pets Jolly Balls, Chuck It balls, and the Tug-O-War Tree Tugger, selected to entertain while minimizing the risk of destruction.
LickiMats for Dogs & Cats: Slow-feeding mats designed to encourage mental engagement during mealtimes.
Cat Scratch Posts & Catnip: Providing a natural outlet for scratching behaviors and sensory enrichment for our feline guests.
I acknowledge that while Pinellas Animal Hospital will make reasonable efforts to monitor my pet’s behavior, constant supervision cannot be guaranteed during toy usage. All enrichment activities will be administered at the discretion of our veterinary staff.
I authorize my pet(s) to receive enrichment offerings.I DO NOT authorize my pet(s) to receive enrichment offerings.
Some pets may feel anxious while boarding or during veterinary visits. To help them relax, we may recommend:
Trazodone (for dogs): Helps ease anxiety by increasing serotonin levels; used for boarding, travel, vet visits, and noise phobias.
Gabapentin (for cats): Originally for pain management, it also provides calming effects to reduce stress.
Both medications have a wide margin of safety and are well-tolerated. Our veterinary team will ensure your pet receives the lowest effective dose to keep them comfortable while minimizing potential side effects.
What to Expect:
Effects begin within 1–2 hours and can last several hours.
Your pet may appear more relaxed or slightly sleepy.
Mild side effects can include drowsiness, minor gastrointestinal upset, or, rarely, restlessness.
These medications reduce stress without overly sedating your pet—they will remain responsive and able to eat, drink, and interact normally.
I authorize my pet(s) to receive treatment or medications deemed necessary for stress or anxiety, by a doctor, during their stay. I understand that the treatment/medication(s) will be an additional fee payable upon pick-up.
I DO NOT authorize my pet(s) to receive such treatment or medications without first contacting me at the phone number provided to review the treatment plan and associated costs.
